Reef, Rainforest and Beach
After your warm arrival, you’ll head north from Cairns along a spectacular scenic coastal drive that hugs the edge of the Coral Sea. Arrive at Port Douglas, a laid-back tropical oasis with sophisticated worldly comforts and a friendly atmosphere. Your welcome BBQ dinner is held poolside at your hotel.
Day 2: Take a short scenic drive north to Mossman Gorge, part of the World Heritage-listed Daintree National Park. As the stunning Mossman River tumbles over and around huge granite boulders, join the Kuku Yalanji Indigenous community as they teach you hunting and gathering methods including spear fishing and mud crabbing techniques. That afternoon, travel to a working cattle station in the Whyanbeel Valley, with sweeping valleys and views all the way to Port Douglas. Tonight, dine amidst one of the oldest rainforests on earth.
Day 3: Head to one of the seven natural wonders of the world: the Great Barrier Reef. How you experience it is up to you: see the Reef from above on a scenic helicopter ride, a semi-submersible tour, by scuba diving, or just relaxing in the sun. This evening, savour a fusion of different flavours as you sample some of the local produce from Port Douglas’s restaurants.
Day 4: Up early for your exclusive breakfast with the wildlife in a rainforest setting before strapping on a helmet and saddling up for some mountain biking around Four Mile Beach. After working up a sweat, escape to the Mossman River for a refreshing swim. This evening, dine out in style - either at the historic Sugar Wharf under a beautiful old weeping fig tree with views over the Coral Sea.
