Guidelines for events

  • Up to 50% capacity or one person per 4 square metres (whichever is the greater) allowed in concert venues, theatres and auditoriums with a COVID Safe Plan
  • There is no limit on the number of people who can attend an event indoors or outdoors, however there are varying levels of compliance and approval needed depending on the size of the event:
    • Events for up to 500 people require a COVID Safe Event Checklist
    • Events up to 10,000 people require a COVID Safe Event Plan approved by local Public Health units.
    • Events over 10,000 people require a COVID Safe Event Plan approved by Queensland’s Chief Health Officer

  • Venues larger than 200 sqm must allow an average of 4sqm per person
  • Venues smaller than 200 sqm can have up to 50 people, following a one person per 2sqm rule

  • There is no limit to how many people can attend a venue or an event, provided there is a COVID Safe Plan in place and each person has an average of 2sqm each
  • Exceptions are weddings and funerals which are limited to 100 people.
  • Events for 1,000 or more attendees at many licensed premises require a COVID Management Plan.

  • Under these rules, Perth’s largest stadium, Optus Stadium, can host up to 35,000 people for concerts
