The six-day event saw the delegation journey from Cairns to Sydney, with a quintessentially east coast itinerary including a hot air balloon ride at Port Douglas, a visit to the Great Barrier Reef, dinner at Flames of the Forest, a Harbour Bridge climb, surf lessons at Bondi and an Opera House tour. For accommodation, delegates were treated to the best of the best, resting their heads in both Mirage Resort Port Douglas and Shangri-La Sydney.
The Welcome event had roving Lifeguard Waiters serving watermelon mint cocktails. There were also creative touches with vertical food stations in retro 1950s colours and good use of flamingos and pastel shades.
The G’Day night at Sugar Wharf became an iconic Aussie pub setting with wine barrels for drinkers to mill around, indigenous native florals and embellished Aussie ocker staff.
With guests from multiple European countries, sourcing an abundance of obscure language guides, such as Turkish and Ukrainian, were initial challenges. Also, on the Rainforest Gala evening, a tropical storm which had been forecast to hit some miles away changed direction and was suddenly headed for the event’s location.
The language guide obstacle was quickly addressed with an extensive search and recruitment process. On the tropical storm front, the ID team had to whip into action to fast track the guest departure and safely transport them back to the resort before it hit. This included moving all post-dinner drinks and coffees to the resort and arranging a lastminute pianist to entertain the guests upon arrival.
There was a significant amount of branding on every transport and resort option. The Sheraton Grand Mirage, Quicksilver and Bally Hooly Train each featured Amway’s insignia, while the water skiers in Sydney spelt Amway with signs while skiing and holding fireworks. The guests viewed this creative display from the vessel Clearstream.
