Adelaide Industry Sectors
Adelaide excels at a range of industries including health and medical, high-tech, minerals and energy, food and agribusiness, defence and aerospace, and creative industries.
Adelaide is home to world-leading research and innovation. Here you will find creative and innovative precincts such as the Tonsley Innovation District, as well as the largest health and medical research precinct in the Southern Hemisphere.
Defence and Aerospace
Kanyini Space Services Mission satellite, the first of its kind in Australia, has been designed, built and tested in South Australia and will launch into low Earth orbit in 2024.
The Australian Space Agency, located in the creative and innovative precinct Lot Fourteen, is a legacy of the 68th International Astronautical Congress (IAC2017) which was held in the city. The precinct is also home to the Australian Space Discovery Centre, which provides science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, engagement and inspiration for young Australians.
Adelaide’s defence industry is also strong, with Australia’s SSN-AUKUS submarines being built just outside the city at Techport . The program will develop Australia’s workforce over the next 30-years and expand Australia’s defence partnerships nationally and internationally.
Health and Medical
Adelaide is home to the largest health and medical research precinct in the Southern Hemisphere. Adelaide BioMed City’s flagship facility – the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) - is located adjacent to the city centre and is a dedicated space for advanced technology.
The precinct brings together leading-edge research and education institutions and connects them with established businesses, and start-ups, as well as business incubators and accelerators to connect and collaborate.
